gas flushing packaging machine

Most gas flushing or MAP (Modified Atmosphere Packaging) applications require specialist flow wrappers with high integrity sealing systems. Such models are large and complex and new ones cost considerably more than a conventional flow wrapper, so a remanufactured machine with full warranty and support represents a very cost effective path into MAP packaging. We always have heavy duty 'long dwell' machines produced by Ilapak, PFM, Ulma and others available.

Perfect if you need low risk MAP packaging without the large cost of new MAP compatible packaging machinery.

  • integrated loading benches

Ulma Atlanta

Some products such as pizza, large trayed items, large multi-packs, etc require machines with over-wide film reels and wide format jaws. Manufacturers such as Ulma and Rose Foregrove make special wide versions but charge a high premium for them. Other manufacturers will make modified versions of the standard machines but, again, they charge a high price for non standard machines. We keep a stock of such machines ready to remanufacture to your exact requirements and can even modify standard machines if necessary - all at a fraction of the cost of a new wide film, big jaw or wide bodied machine.

Whose Flow Wrappers do we sell?

As fully independent experts we can supply Ilapak, Record, Ulma, PFM, Redpack, Adpak, Delfin, Mondial, LMC, Fuji and almost any make and model of flow wrapper.

Ilapak

SpA is a European manufacturer of flowrappers and other packaging related equipment with several factories producing flowrappers, primarily in Italy. Their horizontal flowrapper models include the Carerra 500, Carrera 1000, Carerra 2000, Jaguar, Prima, Astra, Delta and SMART. Ilapak are one of the largest European manufacturers of flowrappers and have a reputation for making good reliable machines. Since their beginning they have made slow and steady design changes rather than full re-designs which has led to a large number of reliable and consistant flow wrappers in the market which share common components. Until recently they also had a manufacturing plant in China specifically for the SMART model although this now appears to have been closed. The SMART machine is of identical design to the Italian manufactured Ilapak Carrera 500 model but arguably lacking the higher quality of their European models. Ilapak flow wrappers are good solid machines which are commonly available on the second hand market and, perhaps with the exception of the SMART, they make an excellent base for remanufacturing and internal multi-motor upgrade.
Ilapak is now owned by Italian parent Industria Macchine Automatiche SpA (IMA).

Record

SpA is one of the earliest manufacturers of flow wrappers and their machines were, a few decades ago, sold exclusively by Ilapak. In more recent times they have built up their own large and successful sales organisation and continued to produce high quality flow wrappers under their own brand name. Consequently their machines share a common heritage and, even to this day, some common components with Ilapak machines. Record flow wrappers are popular and well built heavy duty machines and commonly appear on the second hand market. Their horizontal models are the Panda 1000, Panda 2000, Scorpion, Jaguar Tigre, among others.
Record Packaging SpA is now part of Industria Macchine Automatiche SpA (IMA). The original UK agent, although still named Record Packaging Machines, is no longer associated with Record SpA or IMA.

Redpack

Packaging Machinery Ltd are a well established UK manufacturer of flowrappers. They make a small range of solid well built standard and specialist packaging machines. In particular, their older, Redpack Pacer machines are of a compact but rugged construction with heavy cast frame and plate steel panels. Later machines have followed the trend of lighter weight and cantilever design but are still recognisably robust machines. Redpack's main horizontal flow wrapper models are the Pacer, P200 and P325 as well as some more specialist models.

Ulma

Packaging is part of the ULMA Group and the huge Mondragon Corporation which is a federation of workers cooperatives supported by the Spanish government. Its primary manufacturing plant is based in the Basque region of Spain. It manufacturers a range of horizontal flowrappers from lighter weight entry level models to large and expensive high-end models. In particular, its higher end models are large framed robust flowrappers capable of continued high speed operation. Their flowrap model range includes the Florida, Atlanta, P350, P400, P500, FR200, FM300, Sienna, Nevada, Gemini, and Pacific. The Ulma Atlanta model in particular is an excellent candidate for internal upgrade and modernisation.

PFM

Packaging Machinery SpA are an Italian company based in Northern Italy. They are one of the larger European flowrap manufacturers and over the years they have produced many different models of horizontal flowrappers. Standard rotary jaw models are the Hurricane, Falcon, Swift, Tornado, Bora, Pearl, Sirio. Some are heavy duty robust models, some less so. The PFM Hurricane, Tornado and Falcon are slightly older models which make excellent machines once upgraded. The PFM Swift is a popular small footprint model but is a relatively low budget machine and, although suited to some applications, can suffer if used hard. PFM also make several long dwell and specialist flowrappers which are well made heavy duty machines and excellent candidates for upgrade.

Rose Foregrove

now known as BW Flexible Systems, formely Barry Wehmiller, APV Baker, Hayssen and part of the group that now owns Schib were originally an English company with a long history in the flow wrap industry. Originally known just as Rose Foregrove they originated and pioneered many of the engineering concepts that are still prevalent in todays flowrappers. At one time they had several large factories around northern England and the Midlands and sold machines in large quantities world wide. Unfortunately, after several decades of take-overs, management restructures and buy-outs, they are now a relatively small part of a bigger American owned corporation with parts and machines rumored to be manufactured in various other parts of the world. Their older machines were always very well engineered, strong and long lasting, although slightly over complex at times. For many years, and still currently manufactured, their main horizontal models were the Merlin (not to be confused with the Merlin Blue) and Minerva. Both are excellent very long lasting machines and, once internally refurbished, are excellent work horses which are popular with the contract packaging industry where machines meed to be rugged and adaptable.

Autowrappers

now part of the Bradman Lake Group, were originally based in the UK. An early manufacturer of hand loaded standard rotary jaw flow wrappers, they now concentrate on large complex automatic lines using high end expensive and complex flowrappers. However, their earlier machines have a small footprint but are particularly robust being largely engineered from cast frames and heavy components. Their compact dimensions make them quite difficult to upgrade and work on but also makes them useful if space is at a premium.

Delfin

SpA are a well respected medium size manufacturer of flowrap machines based in Northern Italy. They make well engineered machines which compete well with the bigger players such as Ilapak, Ulma and PFM. Although we mainly concentrate on used upgraded flowrappers, we sometimes supply new equipment, for example to satisfy a specific customer request or as part of a larger autmation project. We use Delfin mechanical assemblies such as the main body, jaw mechanism, bottom crimp unit, etc and build them into new machines at our facility in Yorkshire using the same internal components we use in all our rebuilds and upgrades. This means we can supply new flowrappers with the same functionality and user feel that so impresses all our customers - all at a very competitive price.

There are many smaller, mostly Italian, companies who used to, or still do, manufacture flowrappers. Many of them are smaller lighter weight models although still of reasonable quality. Companies such as

GSP

,

Mondial Pack

,

LMC

,

CampBell

(formerly FMC and Sasib),

Cavana

,

TechoPack

, etc. We know almost every flowrapper model built and we can advise on the quality and worthiness of refurbishing and upgrading any particular machine. After upgrade, many of these Italian flowrappers make good small foot-print latest generation machines that give excellent long term service.

Chinese flowrappers

- A WORD OF WARNING! Our experience of Chinese flowrappers is particularly poor and we would advise anyone considering purchasing a Chinese flowrapper, whatever name it's sold under, to think again! Our experience, without exception, is that they are made of poor quality raw materials, inaccurately machined parts, badly assembled with atrocious quality control and indifferent or no support from the original Chinese manufacturer. Safety standards of most Chinese machines are well below that legally required in the UK and we have invariably found Chinese machines to be dangerous in use with a high risk of personal injury. CE/UKCA certification is a mandatory requirement and it's the legal responsibility of any person importing equipment into the UK from outside the EU to hold the supporting material and data. Some companies effectively attempt to hide the machines country of manufacture (such as illegally marking a machine as CE compliant but then claiming it means 'Chinese Export'). This is why we don't sell Chinese machines and very rarely work on customers Chinese flowrappers. Chinese flowrappers are produced in large volume but fortunately have yet to obtain any real penetration of the UK market. This may be because most potential flowrap users in the UK are well aware of the reputation of Chinese low volume machinery and naturally avoid them.
